Foreman/Chef and ManageIQ - Setup Help

#1

So I am in the process of building a Chef environment and wanted to build a Foreman instance along side of Chef to make management and provisioning easier. I also wanted to use ManageIQ for some of this management as well. I have a mixed environment of VMware, Hyper-V and AWS EC2. I want a single place to manage all of the VM’s/Instances and that is where ManageIQ comes into place.

With limited knowledge of the inter-workings of ManageIQ. I am reaching out here to gather some information on some documentation and/or assistance in setting this up. Obviously having this specific of an environment people are not going to have all of the documentation all in one place but maybe someone could make some suggestions or provide some links to places that I may not have thought to look. In any matter I appreciate anyone’s constructive responses.

Thanks!

Hello. For the Foreman + Chef integration, I’d recommend looking at foreman_chef plugin manual which can be found at http://theforeman.org/plugins/foreman_chef/0.3/ You can always visit us on #theforeman IRC channel on freenode, I’d be happy to help with the Chef part and there are plenty of others that can help with generic Foreman questions. Also Foreman manual is great source of information - http://theforeman.org/manuals/latest/index.html

Hope this helps.

Thanks, I did see those links and was able to finally get it setup using CentOS 6 x86_64. I was not able to successfully get CentOS 7 setup.

Hope this helps.

and thanks @ares for chipping in.

@metalcated could you please let me know what error messages or failures you encountered when you tried CentOS7 setup? Also feedback on manual would be appreciated, especially what information would help you to make the process as smooth as possible.
