Provision VMWare -> "Resource xxx is in use". Failure to deploy from template

#1

Working with some issues related to a new environment I’m attempting to setup a MIQ instance for, and running into something peculiar. I believe it is related to the distributed vSwitch, and I think that once it tries to deploy my template, vCenter barks that the port ID is already in use.

My template occupies port ID 262, and when I try and deploy(using manual placement options) it returns the error “The resource 262 is in use.” Has anyone else ran into this and can offer some advice on what I can check next? Or am I missing something? (This is the first time I’ve set it up on a vCenter using dvS…).

If you need any pics or other information, please ask.

@corymerrill Yes, we have run into the exact same issue. We just move the VM’s NIC(s) to a standard vSwitch before converting it to a template.

In our case the vSwitch isn’t connected to any physical NICs. We just created a TemplateNetwork port group to get around this issue.

Such a simple work around. Thanks Eric, I’ll give it a go.
